Its modern history is equally so. Whether studying rock paintings made by our first residents, the San, learning the cultures of the many indigenous tribes or following in the footsteps of the more recent arrivals of the Dutch, British or Indian peoples, there is much to explore. This includes the history of the struggle against apartheid, which is a fascinating subject all of its own.
