A difficult choice indeed,  but when you have the Johannesburg International Motorshow cruising into town, having a few ice cold ones with mates must take a back seat especially if you are a true petrol head!

My visit to the show this year was my third instalment and believe me this show is absolutely world class. I can compare the show to that of a good red wine – it gets better every time the show comes to Johannesburg. NASREC situated close to Soccer City is the perfect venue for an event of this nature. I found the organisation, the layout of the different stands and displays to be well designed and captivating. For those of you that have visited the show before, and specifically over a weekend will know that crowds of people can make the experience (not to mention getting up close and personal) of consuming the vehicle candy somewhat difficult. That’s why this year I decided to visit the show during the week which admittedly paid handsome dividends.

Just about every automobile manufacturer had a presence at the show. A number of concept cars were on show from BMW, Mercedes Benz and even the iconic Subaru. Technology has become engrained into our everyday life and the future of automobile design and manufacture certainly looks very exciting. For those of us that likes to dream, McLaren made their debut at the Johannesburg International Motorshow with their MPC 4.12C – a truly remarkable supercar.  A quick walk from the main halls to the Daytona Group’s hall allowed me to admire different Aston Martin’s, Ferraris and a few Rollers. The organizers of the show also organised a number of different boats on the NASREC manmade lake – yes only in Jozi do the guys cater for this level of detail. The new Range Rover Evogue received a lot of attention, certainly from the fairer sex. Nissan and Volkswagen have some very interesting new arrivals hitting our shores in the next couple of months, but the one car that stole the show for me was the Ford Mustang GT 500 – “Eleanor” for those of you that watched Nicolas Cage in “Gone in 60 seconds”. I was in absolute awe of this creation and found it rather difficult to pick up my tongue from the floor when it was time to move on.

The Johannesburg International Motorshow is well worth the visit and worth every cent of the R80 entrance fee, and believe me it’s not just the guys that attends the show anymore. There is lots to see and lots for the family to enjoy.  Just make sure that you go early or better yet during the week.
